Alberta health minister promises $158M in budget to recruit front-line health staff

Alberta’s health minister says there will be $158 million in the upcoming budget to attract more physicians and other health-care professionals to fill gaps in care. Jason Copping says the workforce is stretched and demands will only increase as the population ages. The budget is to be delivered Feb. 28, and Copping says more than half of the $158 million will be used for programs to recruit physicians to rural areas, which is feeling the brunt of the doctor shortage. WHO issues new definition for long COVID in kids, teens

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a new definition for post COVID-19 condition, commonly known as long COVID, in children and teenagers. In a document released Thursday, WHO officials say it started to come up with a specific definition for long COVID in children and teens because the virus affects them differently than adults. According to the new definition, children and teens with long COVID are more likely to have fatigue, an altered sense of smell (anosmia), and anxiety than healthy children. Reports child as young as four used jet skis at North Kerry beach

Sinn Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris has told Kerry County Council (KCC) that she has heard reports of a child as young as four or five being allowed to operate an adult-size jet ski at a beach in the Fenit area. Drugs to help prevent serious RSV illness in babies are approved by Health Canada

Health Canada has approved a new antibody drug to help protect babies from serious illness caused by respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. Nirsevimab, also known by its brand name Beyfortus, was legal on April 19. It was developed by AstraZeneca and Sanofi.
